East Africa Subregion, Area Coordinator for East Africa Subregion, Tanzania, Burundi & Rwanda
Former AIMers in Kenya, Richard and Pamela Smoak were appointed to Tanzania in October 1988.
Some of their work includes: directing the E. L. Freeman Bible Institute; developing, translating, and printing literature in the Swahili language; and promoting Sunday School, youth, ladies, and evangelism ministries. He has served as secretary/treasurer of Africa’s regional missions program. He also serves as the Area Coordinator for the East Africa Subregion.
Burundi was added to their appointment in 1998; he became superintendent in 2006. The Smoaks’ relocation to western Tanzania has enabled them to travel by land to Burundi to strengthen the Burundian church and conduct ministerial training seminars. They also intend to establish a Bible and leadership training program. They also have been asked to assist with the work in Rwanda.
In 2024, Pamela Smoak passed away due to health complications. We honor her years of service and dedication to the work of the Lord!
In 2025, Richard Smoak married Andrea Sanders, a faithful woman of God who has served the Global church for many years, working at the World Headquarters in St Louis, Missouri.
